free city supershop!

Outta My Head(Ay Ya Ya) by Ashlee Simpson

I’ve been meaning to do a little 411 about a favorite store of mine for a while.

While I was still living it up in California(helloo, now I’m stuck in the UK), Free City was the store of all stores. Anybody who was an anybody owned at least a purchase from their ultra-exclusive address in the Malibu hills.

If you’re loving sweats, then introduce your self to Free City!

Free City is known for their So-Cal-esque style of comfy, splendor, Hollywood-type style. Celebrities such as our renowned Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Conrad, and even Miley have been spotted by the paparazzi sporting a pair of their notorious, extremely beachy-chic sweats, like below.

freecitys

From left to right:

Freecity Sweat Pants in Black, Artyardyellow and White, all $135

While Free City’s price tag isn’t for a typical shopper, many find that splurging $135 is worth the big bucks. The sweats are a perfect solution to ensemble in when you’re getting those daily, “I have nothing to wear” get-ups(and we all know everyone gets them).

By Day: Give your sweats a ride to the beach, shopping, or a cafe lunch with friends.

By Night: Cozy up in your sweats with a snazzy, ritzy-all-over sleepover with all of your girl friends.

But my favorite item from Free City has to be their jackets!

Don’t even get me started on them…

They have that boho, just-woke-up, rugged, edge-ish to them, with a little splash of SoCal to them.

Cheap? No.

Worth it? Yes.

Here are some of my must-haves:

Clockwise from left:

Freecity Zip Jacket in Deepspace: $180

Freecity Hoodie in Pinkclay: $168

Life Nature Love Zip Jacket in Greenmachine: $180

Want to impress your friends with the LA-aspect of life style?

Then surely remember to invest in a pair of sweats or a jacket from Free City!

young hollywood

My own spin-off of the Gossip Girl series, based on Yale Waldorf-Rose, Blair’s younger stepsister(yes, she is a real character, she was born in You’re The One What I Want, the sixth book in the series). I hope you guys like it! (:

YOUNG HOLLYWOOD, CHAPTER ONE

“Oh my God. I have nothing to wear!” The minute those dreadful, runway-disaster words flew out of fifteen-year-old Yale Waldorf-Rose’s dainty mouth, she knew that she needed a little fashion pick-me-up… ASAP.

“Oh my God,” Camille Eastham’s Paris Hilton-esque voice echoed back through the phone. “You must be kidding, Yale.”

“I wish I was,” Yale mumbled furiously. She pressed speaker on her bejeweled Ed Hardy-clad iPhone, then carefully positioned her cell phone on her white Victorian 60s’ table. Yale had always been the experienced, skilled expert at multi-tasking, from phone-ordering the cream Nicolas Ghesquière city bag from the Burberry store in London while at the same time, adventuring an exploited shopping excursion to Chanel and Kate Spade with Camille… all while also doing some finger-candy (aka, texting) to make sure her Stella McCartney stockpile had been freshly dry-cleaned and ironed, ready for a little trip to school on Monday.

If Yale could handle all of that at once, couldn’t she call Neiman Marcus to make extra sure her Manolo Blahniks would arrive at her doorstep (her bedroom doorstep, to be correct), be ready in half-an-hour for her monthly Keratin hair therapy at Frèdèric Fekkai in Melrose, and dial her mother’s stylist for a dress to wear?

Yale sighed, her body worn. Half of her morning was spent scurrying from her bedroom, across the Waldorf-Rose’s lofty, ten-bedroom estate, and to her mother’s bedroom. Yale was assiting her mother, Eleanor Waldorf-Rose, to pick out an outfit for it.

It just happened to be the annual Beverly Hills spring and summer banquet.

Every spring, a high-famed, prominent, notoriously-known-for-their-money-and-scandals family was chosen to host the spring/summer banquet for all of the Hill’s who’s of who’s to attend and be seen.

The Spellings, the Hiltons and sometimes even the Kardashians were classic aristocratics to be exclusively chosen to host.

But this passing spring, the most sought-after hosting status was given to the Waldorf-Rose family, originally Manhattan natives.

Eleanor was had been planning the banquet for months already; the caterer, interior, A-list only guestlist, transportation. It was all there. But that Saturday morning, Eleanor had chosen to break down out of “stress” and “pressure” and immediately called in Trevor, the super-gorgeous Italian massager known for his routines on the priceless bodies of celebrities like Britney Spears and Reese Witherspoon.

And all of this had to happen right on the day of the summer banquet.

“My mom’s like, freaking out. And tonight’s the banquet,” Yale said tersely to Camille on the phone.

Camille had been Yale’s twenty four seven and best friend ever since they met while they were shopping with their mothers at the Juicy Couture store in Beverly Hills when they were six. Of course, they knew each other in school, but Yale had been the pretty, tween girl that started all the elementary school fashion trends. Camille on the other hand, was the daughter of a scandalous movie director, Harrison Eastham, so she never had an easy time making friends until Yale came along.

“Tell her to try some green tea. It really works and soothes the mind,” Camille suggested.

Yale shook her head, even though Camille couldn’t see her. She glided across her crispy, 65-degreed bedroom and struck a causual pose in front of her vintage mirrored armorie and realized again that she really did have nothing in her closet to wear to tonight’s fètè.

“Mom’s already called Trevor to do her some back massages. I’m sure she’ll be fine as soon as her session is over. But, wait. I have some gossip,” Yale announced gleefully.

Another thing she loved other than fashion… gossip. Whether it’s bad or good.

“Oh my God, what?” Both of them knew that Yale always got the straight, hot-of-the-press scoop on anyone, and the best part was that, most of the time (99.8% of the time), her 411s were correct and true. Anybody who was an anybody came to Yale for all of the juicy stuff; she was the school’s official gossipmonger.

“There’s a new girl that’s going to be in our grade starting on Monday. Apparently, she’s some socialite chick from Manhattan.” Yale swallowed slowly, waiting for Camille to sink in the information.

     “Oooh. What’s her name?”

“Something really exotic. It’s kind of sophisticated in a weird, unusual way. You know… like my name? Except mine was never even close to being dubbed as weird and unusual.”

    “Just tell me already, Yale!”

“Her name’s Kodiak Martindale, but almost anyone who knows her, which is probably all of the population in Manhattan, call her Kodi.”

On the other line, Yale could almost sense that Camille was smirking. “Wow, very exotic indeed, Yale. She seems like she’s a high-mantience, stuck-up biotch if you ask me.”

Yale smiled deviously, her perfectly-tweaked brows raising. “I knew you would agree. She smells like… competition. Already. I’ve heard some rumors at school on Friday that apparently, she’s supermodel-gorgeous. Looks exactly like the perfect, stunning blend of Kate Moss and Lily Donaldson. And, she has the body of Heidi Klum, as Logan would say,” Yale dished, rolling her eyes at her last sentence.

Logan Dillard was one of those boys who seemed innocent and beautiful at first, but once you get to know him very well, he was just another good-looking rich boy with a peverted Spencer Pratt-esque mind.

“Me too,” Camille put in. “And, I heard in bio yesterday that Kodi’s going to automatically get the spot as the Norewood-Lenox Fox in two weeks.”

“What?”  Yale gasped, her throat feeling dry.

The Norewood-Lennox Fox was the most, highly-regarded, idolized position at their school, Norewood-Lennox. Since the fox was their school’s official mascot, it had been ‘cleverly’ entitled the Norewood-Lennox Fox position. At the end of each school year, one student was voted by all of the school’s brimming student population (which was basically doused with rich, spoiled bratty kids of Hollywood’s elite) to be the Norewood-Lennox Fox. The Fox was responsible for choosing an end-of-the-year activity and earned the privileged spot as a summer intern for Teen Vogue magazine, since for every school year, the Fox had been a girl.

When Yale was a young, Marc Jacobs-wearing girl at Norewood-Lennox, she used to admire and stare with emerald envy at the cooler, aged, more sophisticated upperclass girls who notoriously received the sought-after position as the Fox. Ever since then, it had been Yale’s ultimate desire to become them. And this year, she was pretty sure she was going to be voted in as the Fox by all her stuck-up, high-mantienced peers at school.

“That’s probably not going to happen,” Yale tossed off smoothly. She paused to avert her colbalt-blue eyes at her mirror image and fixed her satin black Givenchy head band so it merged nicely with her dark brown, blonde-flecked highlighted hair.

“Everyone knows that I’m going to win the Fox this year. I have it all,” she reminded Camille.

   “Of course you do, Yale.”

Actually, it was true. Yale did have it all. And whoever this Kodi idenity was, Yale knew there wasn’t enough room for the both of them in Yale’s exclusive Beverly Hills territory. And she going to make one-hundred percent sure that Kodi wasn’t going to win the Fox position… and her school.

Yale’s mascara-fringed eyes flew over to the Antoinette crown clock. 3:02 PM.

“Shoot. I’m late for my Fekkai appointment. He’s doing my hair for the banquet tonight. Ugh. Speaking of that, I still need a dress.”

“Wait, before you go! This just came in; Jacqui just texted me. She says that Kodi’s going to be at the banquet tonight. True or false?” Camille asked.

“Whatever is better for Beverly Hills,” Yale finished off hurriedly, then abruptly hung up.

She tore her lime green Lanvin flats off her manicured feet and thrust them onto the pristine, off-set cream white Provasi sheets on her bed.

She needed to plan a stragety for tonight’s eye-candy outfit without her feet feeling sore. And Yale had to make sure that her dress was the best, and only the best. After all, Kodi Martindale was going to have her grand debut at the banquet, and this was Yale’s first and probably, only, chance to prove to the jaded, svelte, well-bred residents of Beverly Hills that yes, she was the queen-bee of the Hollywood hills.

And she wasn’t willing to give up her status just yet.

mascara secrets (:

This Is Sparta Techno Music by ???

(Okay, my friend totally got me into it… he must be crazy because it’s actually sort of cool to dance too)

Also, before I go on, I got a haircut! It’s nothing too dramatic; I just got some more layers since my old layers were getting split ends(ugh) and I got like, mini-side bangs, you could say. They’re not too long, though. At first when I came out of the salon, I was sort of freaking out because I kept saying to my self I looked the same, even my dad said I did.

But I took a shower last night and woke up this morning, and my hair turned out really good, I’d like to say. Like those messy, bed-head styles.

But moving on.

I found a great discovery. Ever since I ran out of mascara, I’ve been substituting something for mascara, and the look turns out really well, too.

My mascara secret is to use Vaseline!

If you’re not allowed to wear make-up or you’re looking for a more natural look then the Vaseline method is perfect for you!

Here’s some steps on to achieve some Vaseline-as-Mascara lashes!

1. Buy a jar of petroleum jelly Vaseline(they can usually be found at your local drug store; I had to search really carefully for mine, because apparently, the people who work at CVS like to keep them hidden).

vaseline

2. Wet your eye lashes with cold water - This prevents your lashes from clumping and sticking together.

3. Gently apply a pea-sized amount of Vaseline on your lashes - Some people reccomend old toothbrushes to swab some on, but I use my fingers because it’s easier to get the Vaseline to where you want it to be. When applying Vaseline on, do it as if you are putting on mascara. Gently push upward on your lashes with your finger to curl them as well as on the outer lashes. Don’t forget your bottom lashes! You can repeat as many times as you want; the more coats you do, the thicker they turn out to be.

4. Slightly wet your eye lashes with warm water - The Vaseline won’t last too long on your lashes if you don’t put some hot water on it. Turn on your water until it’s warm(not too hot, not too cold). Now, use your fingers to gently dab a bit of warm water on your lashes.

5. Optional: Curl your lashes - If you want your lashes to be really curled, turn your water so it’s very hot. Quickly wet your finger, then push upward gently on your lashes for at least 30 seconds, then release slowly. This method works really good! You can also try this with an old toothbrush.

6. Touch-up around your eyes - When apply Vaseline, sometimes some of the gel gets on the skin around your eyes and makes your skin look a bit too shiny(aka, oily). This always happens to me, so what I do is take a tissue, gently wet it with water, and dab around my eye area to get rid any excess gel.

And there you go! And there’s my guide on how to achieve some mascara-esque eyes without really using it. My friends used to ask me all the time whether I was using mascara or not, so if your friends take a notice, consider your Vaseline work a job well done. (:

Tell me what you think!

spring wardrobe must haves

bigcitydreams by nevershoutnever

spring is already in full bloom for some of us… but for most people (like me), i still have my winter+fall outfits cluttered in my closet, with no spring-y clothing at all.

of course, this is just another opportunity for us fashionistas to go… shopping. (:

If you really feel like you need a new wardrobe dedicated to spring, then I suggest you bring your favorite piece of credit card… because you are going to splurge on the must haves for spring that will last you through next year’s spring also (save money, it’s time to dress recession-chic).

Here are some of my essentials spring pick-me-ups that i ALWAYS have on ocassion for the spring season (and they will look extra trendy during the summer times too!)

- 1 pair of jeans : yes, we all know winter is over, but sometimes it does get a little chilly in spring, and a pair of flattering jeans that blend well with your figure will spice up your wardrobe a bit. If you already have jeans from the winter/fall, invest a intended-for-spring jeans. Buy them in a different wash/style that you don’t have.

MY TIP: I love wearing light-wash denim jeans in the spring because the bright, flowerly decals + prints go well with them, so if you don’t have any light-washes yet, pick up a pair!

$$$ :  jeans are always a must-have in any season, so  splurge on a pair you’ll know you’ll be wearing a lot.

@ true religion, lucky, seven for all mankind, bdg jeans

cheap monday jeans @ urban outfitters

Cheap Monday Jeans @ Urban Outfitters – $50.00

- spring dresses : when you’re not in the shorts/tanktop mood, i suggest some cute, flirty spring dresses. you should at least own three kinds of spring dresses in different styles and colors. Strapless, maxis, halters are all favorites in the spring time.

MY TIP:  in addition to three spring dresses, i always buy a solid-colored dress also. try to get them in bright colors like yellow, purple, ect. these are perfect for wearing  for traveling, over bikinis at the beach, or just shopping around.

$$$ - you don’t need to spend TOO much money on spring dresses but remember, they can easily be worn during the summer too. try from the $20-$50 range for dresses, depending on the style and how much you are going to wear it.

@ h&m, delia’s, forever 21, urban outfitters

forever 21 dress

one of my favorites – forever21.com

- Tops : spring tops can be a variety of styles, but for sure, a spring favorite for tops are tank-tops and tunics.  The colors and styles can be any design you want, and they can still be worn during the summer too, which is a plus!

MY TIP: i always go crazy + outrageous on my tanks & tunics, get them in designs and colors you normally wouldn’t wear  because spring is the time to be bold. If you’re a little more shy about standing out, you can always wear a cardigan or sweater over it but still keep the same effect.

$$$ – spring tops shouldn’t be like, say, $300, because seriously, why waste all the money on one top? my typical price range for spring tops are around $20-$30 and you can probably even find some chic ones under $20 bucks at Forever 21 too!

@ forever 21, h&m, delia’s, macy’s

macys top

BCX Sleevless Tank Top @ Macy’s – $27.00

- Cardigans/Sweaters  : it’s time to ditch your furry-hooded jackets and sweatshirts for a little something a bit more light yet it’s still in-vogue. cardigans and sweaters look extremely well put together and tasteful with your eye-catching, lively spring designs while keeping you warm!

MY TIP: when shopping, i always try to find button and button-less cardigans and sweaters.  The buttoned-up ones will give you a polished, serious look when you need it while a button-less gives you a laid-back, casual spring style. I suggest buying both these styles if you can because they can really save your wardrobe! Also, try to find sweaters and cardigans in NEUTRAL COLORS, like black, brown, gray, and white.  They can tone down your outfit so people won’t have to glare at you like at the sun when you wear your floral outfits.

$$$ – Cardigans and sweaters should be invested wisely.  Think this: Are you going to wear them only in the spring?  If you say yes, then your price range probably shouldn’t be too high, maybe around $20-$30 range.  However, if you are planning to wear them during the fall, winter and maybe even summer, your limit can be a little higher. I suggest around $20-$40 but try not to spend over $50 on sweaters and cardigans.

- Shoes :   spring is the time to show off your manicured toes!  you can finally put away your fuzzy boots and tennis shoes for something a little more…. Romanesque. Gladiator heels and funky sandals are making big splashes this spring. The color of your gladiators + sandals have no rules; if you like the sophisticated black color, or if you prefer the wild, sky bue or sunflower yellow shades, then buy whatever color your heart (and closet) desires.

MY TIP:   i’ve always preferred my sandal-wear to be a more reserved color, like black or navy that i can wear for different events. if you know you are going to be wearing your shoes for more than one occasion, i suggest you get them in a neutral color, like black, navy, brown or white.  of course, your spring shoewear does not have to have heels; save your 3-inch heel wear for something more formal. remember, your spring gladiators and sandals are made purposely for walking around, so make sure they are comfortable on your feet

$$$ –  Since they are shoes, you can sort of splurge on a pair of sandals or  gladiators. These transfer easily to your summer wardrobe, and maybe even fall, also. The price range for gladiators and sandals are normally around the scale of $30-$50 but sometimes, you can find good-quality sandals for a lower price, so search around!

@ bakers shoes, urban outfitters, nordstrom’s

bakers gladiator sandals

Dorian Leather Gladiator Sandals @ Bakers Shoes – $44.99

one of my favorites – bakersshoes.com

- Handbags : of course, we can’t forget our most treasured item… our bag! spring is the time to pile up on some big, oversized, colorful totes in different prints and colors. yes, bags are the most useful item because you can virtually style them in any season of the year.

MY TIP: i always splurge on a good, leather-quality bag in a unique, eye- popping color that is in trend for both spring and summer, but can still look effortlessly fashionable in the winter and fall. Try to get a big, oversized bag so you can stock up all of your belongings in one, useful for traveling or to the beach in the spring and summer times

$$$ – Bags can be spent a lot of money on, that is, if you’re willing too.  Unlike clothes + shoes, a bag will always fit you so you never need to come back and buy something in a different size. I always buy a good-quality leather bag that is in good-condition. Leather is strong enough to hold all of your belongings and will last for a long time. The perfect leather bag price range? Probably around $40-$80, or even $90 if you’re willing to spend a lot

So, those are my top spring wardrobe must-haves for this year. (: I might be doing a beauty & hair guide too, with some accessories probably. What do you think?

What are your thoughts? What are some of your spring style secrets?
